The Annual Dinner will cost €45. It will be held in a village on the outskirts of Valencia, at the nature reserve of La Albufera, with a live ‘paella cooking show’ and a disco party. The dinner and party are subsidized thanks to the generosity of our sponsors (coach travel will be provided).
The pre-conference field-trip will cost €420, and will include three days of meals, transport, the field-trip guide and accommodation for the duration (including Saturday 14th to facilitate the early departure of the group). The number of participants will be limited to 30 due to the characteristics of the outcrops. The post-conference field trip will cost €45, will be limited to 45 participants (coach capacity), and includes lunch.
Travel grants to student members
The Palaeontological Association runs a programme of travel grants to assist student members (doctoral and earlier) to attend the Annual Meeting in order to present a talk or poster. For the 2019 meeting, small grants of up to £100 (or the Euro equivalent) will be available to student presenters who are travelling from outside Valencia. The number of awards will depend on the number of applicants and the distance travelled. Payment of these awards is given as a disbursement at the meeting, not as an advance payment. Students interested in applying for a PalAss travel grant should contact the Executive Officer, Dr Jo Hellawell (e-mail executive@palass.org) once the organizers have confirmed that their presentation is accepted, and before 1st December 2019. Entitle the e-mail “Travel Grant Request”. No awards can be made to those who have not followed this procedure.
Palaeontological Association Carer’s Bursary
Bursaries are made to support attendance at the Association’s Annual Meeting by researchers with caring responsibilities. Please see Palaeontological Association Carer’s Bursary for more information.
Abstracts
General
- Deadline for abstract submission: 23:59 BST 20th September 2019 (i.e. before 21st September). After this date abstracts will not be considered.
- Abstracts are limited to 200 words in length.
- If oral presentations are oversubscribed, we may offer that you present a poster instead. A panel at the University of Valencia will make a decision on the nature of your presentation based on the abstract and how developed the research is. We will also consider career stage in allocating talks. The decision of the organizers is final.
- Eligibility of presenters for President's and Council Prizes: The President's and Council Prizes are awarded for the best talk and poster, respectively, at the Annual Meeting. All student members of the Palaeontological Association, and all members of the Association who are early career stage researchers, i.e. those within one calendar year of the award of a higher degree (PhD or MSc) are eligible for consideration for these awards.
Oral Presentations
All speakers (apart from the symposium speakers) have been allocated 15 minutes. It is therefore expected that you prepare to speak for no more than 12 minutes to allow time for questions and switching between presenters. We have a number of parallel sessions in adjacent lecture theatres so timing will be especially important. All lecture theatres have an AV projector linked to a large screen. All presentations should be in PowerPoint or PDF format. These should be submitted prior to the meeting to Carlos Martínez Pérez (annualmeeting2019@palass.org) after compressing the presentation to minimize file size. Alternatively, you can bring the presentation to the meeting on a USB stick. During the meeting there will be a volunteer with a computer outside the lecture rooms who can upload your presentation.
Poster presentations
Poster boards will accommodate an A0-sized poster presented in portrait format only. Pins to affix your poster to the boards will be available at the meeting. Posters will be displayed in the Faculty of Philosophy and can be put up during Wednesday afternoon or on Thursday morning (between 08.00 and 08.45).
