17th November - Symposium on Palaeontological Preparation and Conservation
The 2026 Symposium on Palaeontological Preparation and Conservation will immediately precede the GCG Winter Seminar and AGM. Despite the title, SPPC has been expanded to cover any topic related to the preparation or conservation of any and all geological material, including all work undertaken to prepare palaeontological or geological material for research, teaching, storage, display, etc.

Despite their clear public popularity, the future of geological collections, as well as the people and institutions who care for them, feels constantly under threat. The 2026 Geological Collections Group Winter Seminar will serve as a ‘call to arms’ for those in our community to present on and discuss the public and scientific benefits of our collections. We are seeking presentations that demonstrate the value of collections, and case studies of when advocacy has, or has not, been effective.

The International Fossil Coral and Reef Society invites researchers at all career stages to attend its 5th Early Career Researcher Symposium (ECRS2026), which will be held online via Zoom on 19 November 2026, with talks beginning at 10:00 EST (15:00 UTC). Attendance is free.
This one-day event highlights advances in fossil coral and reef research led by early career researchers. The scientific programme will feature invited presentations by students and postdoctoral researchers from around the world. This year’s talks cover topics ranging from deep-time microbialite and archaeocyath reefs to coral evolution, palaeoclimate reconstruction and the resilience of reef ecosystems under environmental change. The Symposium will also welcome Aaron O’Dea as its plenary speaker.
The programme includes ‘Meet the Lab’ presentations, during which principal investigators from research groups worldwide will introduce their research themes and share details of any available opportunities. These sessions are intended to help attendees learn more about the international research community and encourage future collaborations across institutions and career stages.
This year, the symposium will also feature Coffee Breakout Chats, where attendees can meet in themed discussion groups, exchange ideas and build new connections. Participants will be able to suggest a theme for a breakout chat when registering for the meeting.

2nd March - The 3rd Asian Palaeontological Congress (APC3)
Following the successful meetings in Beijing, China in 2019 and Tokyo, Japan in 2023, the 3rd Asian Palaeontological Congress (APC3) will be held from 2nd–5th March 2027 in Bangkok, Thailand, under the auspices of the Asian Palaeontological Association (APA). The congress will be organised by the Palaeontological Research and Education Centre of Mahasarakham University in cooperation with the Department of Mineral Resources, the Geological Society of Thailand, and several Thai universities.
Palaeontology plays a vital role in unraveling the mysteries of the past and shedding light on the history of life on our planet. By analysing fossils and geological evidences, palaeontologists reconstruct past environments and evolutionary processes that have shaped biodiversity on Earth over billions of years. APC3 will provide a platform for participants to share new research results, discuss scientific ideas and hypotheses, and engage in collaborative discussions that contribute to the advancement of palaeontological research in Asia.
This congress will provide opportunities for experts, young researchers and students from Asia and around the world to collaborate and share their knowledge for a better understanding of the evolution of life on Earth.
2nd August - 5th Crossing the Palaeontological–Ecological Gap (CPEG) meeting & 4th Conservation Paleobiology Symposium
The 5th Crossing the Palaeontological–Ecological Gap (CPEG) Meeting and 4th Conservation Paleobiology Symposium (CPS) will be held jointly at University College London (UCL) in the summer of 2027, with planned dates of 2nd–6th August. This combined CPEG–CPS meeting aims to bridge spatial and temporal gradients between palaeontology, ecology, and conservation. We are planning a workshop and four days of in-person presentations, including a wide range of keynote speakers, as well as social events during the meeting.
