Graham F. Elliott A rock-type common in the Lower and Middle Cretaceous of the Middle East consists of fine algal debris in a calcareous marly matrix. The algae, of which Permocalculus and Munieria are the commonest, are described and illustrated both as fragments and as complete segments; the origin of the deposits is discussed by analogy with present-day algal sediments.
