K. A. G. Shiells Promarginifera trearnensis gen. et sp. nov. a productid brachiopod from the Upper Visean of Ayrshire, Scotland is described. It occurs in the Dockra Limestone 65 ft. below the Visean-Namurian junction. Morphologically the form has affinities with both the marginiferids and dictyoclostids but on the evidence of a marginiferid cardinal process and discontinuous marginal ridges it is classified as a marginiferid of the subfamily Costispiniferinae.
